This includes FORTIFIED and other construction retrofits the state of Louisiana recognizes. A FORTIFIED Evaluator is the only professional who can help you earn a FORTIFIED Designation and take advantage of all the programs benefits. The program starts by focusing on the roof, which is the most important and vulnerable part of every building. After the roof, openings and attached structures have been addressed, the FORTIFIED Home™ Gold level ties the house together by connecting the roof to the walls to the floors to the foundation, so it acts as one system.

Also, since your roof is in good shape, you might prefer to address other vulnerable areas of your home. Enter your email, and we’ll send your personalized “Get FORTIFIED” packet. We’re sorry to hear that you’ve had to experience the damage and disruption caused by severe weather. Answer these simple questions to see if now is the right time to give your roof the extra strength FORTIFIED provides. In a previous post we discussed choosing your FORTIFIED™ Evaluator in detail. Are critical construction details verified at different building and retrofitting stages?
The First step to FORTIFIED™ is hiring an evaluator
One option involves replacing the roof covering, while the other option does not. If your not sure, you can take this quiz to see if it’s time to take action. Sign up to receive natural disaster-related updates, information about research that can you help protect your home and more.
We can help you figure out the best next steps for your situation, if you answer these five questions. The Silver designation is the second level in the FEH designations. To achieve the Silver designation, the home must meet the requirements of the Bronze designation in addition to the retrofits specific to the Silver designation. This unique systems-based approach requires documenting and verifying all aspects of construction to make sure homes and businesses are built to the standard. Not only does Fortified Inspections meet all your Fortified needs, we also specialize in residential home inspections serving Baldwin, Mobile and Escambia Counties. With over 20 years of construction and inspection experience, Fortified Inspections delivers a thorough inspection, giving clients a peace of mind towards the purchase of their new home.

The FORTIFIED Home™ program has three levels of designation—Bronze, Silver and Gold—that build upon each other, allowing you to choose the desired level of protection that best suits your budgets and resilience goals. We spent decades studying the damage caused by hurricanes, tornadoes and other severe weather events and identified common weaknesses in homes built using conventional construction standards. Then, we spent years finding the best solutions by testing them in the only research center in the world capable of full-scale building tests.
Collectively, these severe weather events caused approximately $100 billion in damage, and IBHS post-storm studies generally show that between 70% and 90% of related insurance claims include damage to the roof. We can connect you to a FORTIFIED professional who will help you get a new roof that can stand up to the next storm. 01 Find a Contractor To get a FORTIFIED designation, you’ll need a contractor and an independent evaluator who will verify that FORTIFIED standards are applied. FORTIFIED is a voluntary construction and re-roofing Program designed to strengthen multifamily dwellings against specific types of severe weather such as high winds, hail, hurricanes and even tornados. A Gold designation requires a more invasive inspection and has a greater project cost. However, the Gold designation also provides the most significant reduction in insurance premiums and highest level of protection of all designations within the FEH program.

Knockout Inspections is an IBHS Approved and Certified FORTIFIED Evaluator, and can ensure that homes under construction or renovation meet the requirements to receive the FORTIFIED designation. By creating a sealed roof deck, these upgrades reduce wind and water entering the attic through the roof covering and vents. You can help make your community more resilient while growing your business.

Your evaluator will make sure that all of the guidelines are followed for a FORTIFIED™ Home, ensuring that your home is eligible for a FORTIFIED™ Certificate. Upgrades reduce wind and water entering the attic through the roof covering and vents. However, the Silver designation should provide a greater reduction in insurance premiums than a Bronze designation. Save up to 25% a year on your wind insurance premiums over the life of your roof, which is typically 15 years.

In addition to the roof system addressed in the Fortified Roof level, the FORTIFIED Home™ Silver level addresses windows, doors and attached structures.
